Abstract

This resource contains dissolved gas (O2, CO2, CH4) concentrations collected at three reach sections of New Hope Creek in Duke Forest, North Carolina. Dissolved oxygen (DO) was measured using high-frequency (15 minutes) sensors at 9 locations. CO2 and CH4 concentrations were field sampled and measured by a gas chromatography. This resource also includes field-estimated flux estimations and field survey of channel geomorphology. R scripts will be uploaded before the publication of the paper.

This resource contains dissolved gas (O2, CO2, CH4) concentrations collected at three reach sections of New Hope Creek in Duke Forest, North Carolina. Dissolved oxygen (DO) was measured using high-frequency (15 minutes) sensors at 9 locations continuously from July 2023 to January 2024. CO2 and CH4 concentrations were measured from water samples collected during three sampling periods (July 20-August 3, September 20-26 in 2023, February 4-18 in 2024). 

All data files are in '.csv' format. 

For all files, column 'reach' is reach sections (A, B, C), 'station' is sensor deployments at each reach section (1, 2, 3), and 'dist_down' is distance (m) from the most downstream sensor (station 3) at each reach section. 

File 'gas_raw' contains CO2 and CH4 concentrations in both mass (uM; column 'CO2' and 'CH4') and percentage saturation (%; 'pct_CO2' and 'pct_CH4'). Columns 'CO2_excess' and 'CH4_excess' is the excessive gas concentration over equilibrium. This file also includes air temperature (°C). Column 'pool.run' indicates whether a sample was collected at a pool or run. 

File 'do_subdaily' contains continuous DO measurements (mg/L) from nine locations. This file also includes air pressure and water temperature, which were used to estimate DO concentration at equilibrium (column 'DO_sat'). It also contains pH measurements, which were collected intermittently, and discharge estimations (m3/s).

File 'elev' contains elevation (m) profile of each reach section. Column 'dist_C3' is the distance from the sensor station 'C3', which is the most downstream among nine sensors. Columns 'lat' and 'lon' are latitude and longitude.

File 'flux_chamber' contains field-estimated flux estimations for two gases (CO2, CH4). 

File 'channel_survey' contains the result of field survey of channel geomorphology at each reach section. For the pool of reach 'C', we measured depth only at two sensor locations as manual survey was not possible due to deep water depth. Column 'dist_field' is the distance from the most downstream sensor estimated at field.

File 'sensor_info' contains coordinates of nine sensor locations.
